A World of Shoes by Della Rowland

Book review

Mary was moved away, but Rafferty grabbed her wrist. Once again, enraged, Mary turned and incinerated his eyes: - Take your hands, Rafferty! I'm sick of your boorish treatment. Tired of snide remarks about Lucy. I do not care what it is you do! Lucy was my friend. She did not always liked, I do not always agree with her, but we were friends, and I'll be damned if I will demolish your stupid jokes. If we're not able to comply with the most basic rules of conduct that would, at least, show a little respect. JD released Mary's hand, looking thoughtfully as she came to the gate of the pen, took off from the pole pewter urn. Mary stood, turning his back to Rafferty, and clutched the urn to her. The Jay Dee woke remorse. Mary was right: he should behave more decently, and not spread over the fact that he thinks about Lucy. Especially with a woman who had just inherited her property.
